Torazo Koi Farm
Torazo Koi Farm (officially Torazo Urakawa Koi Farm) is a historic and highly respected koi breeding operation based in Uragara, Ojiya City, in Japan’s Niigata Prefecture — the birthplace of Nishikigoi. Established in 1917, Torazo is renowned for its role in developing and refining some of the most iconic koi bloodlines in the world.
Specialization
Torazo is best known for its work with Gosanke varieties — particularly Sanke , Kohaku, Gin Rin Kohaku. The farm was instrumental in shaping the modern Sanke bloodline, producing fish with strong, stable sumi (black markings) and vibrant beni (red). More recently, under the leadership of third-generation breeder Tsuyoshi Kawakami, Torazo has focused heavily on developing a distinctive Torazo Kohaku line, known for its intense red coloration, sharp white skin, and excellent body conformation.
In addition to Gosanke, the farm also produces high-quality Showa and Karashigoi, though in smaller numbers.
