Takahashi Koi Farm

Takahashi Koi Farm (officially Takahashi Fish Farm) is a respected koi breeding operation located in the Uonuma region of Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 1958 by Hanjyuro Takahashi, the farm is now led by his son, Takehisa Takahashi, who continues the family legacy in koi breeding.

Specialization

The farm is best known for its Showa Sanshoku (Showa), which are lauded for their striking sumi (black), vibrant hi (red), and balanced patterning — qualities enhanced by the region’s unique mud-pond environment and decades of refined breeding techniques. In addition to Showa, the farm also produces high-quality Kohaku, Sanke, Asagi, and various Hikarimono, including Ginrin Showa and Ginrin Kohaku. Takahashi Koi Farm is also well known for its Doitsu varieties, which are appreciated for their clean scaleless skin, sharp color separation, and strong pattern contrast.
